Please print out a copy of this map, study it, and bring it with you on Saturday
All runners will cross Memorial Bridge and follow Ohio Drive down to the far end of Hains Point, alongside the Potomac River.
Full marathoners will return on the Washington Channel side of Hains Point, around the Tidal Basin, and back along Independence Ave. to the Lincoln Memorial. They will then cross over in front of the Lincoln Memorial and run down Constitution Ave to 15th Street, on the North Side of the National Mall. They will then angle over to the "inside" of the Mall, and cross 14th Street to continue east on Madison Drive, the same way the MCM course runs. At the 9th Street footpath (over the 9th Street tunnel which runs under the Mall), cross over to the South Side of the Mall, run West on Jefferson Drive to 15th Street. Cross 15th Street, turn left and following the looping paths along Independence Ave. back to the Lincoln Memorial. Cross Memorial Bridge and follow the path back to the Marina parking lot. [12.25 miles, total]
Half Marathoners should cross Memorial Bridge and head down to the end of Hains Point. But instead of following the full marathoners around the point and up the other side, the half marathon trainees should retrace their steps along the Potomac river, and run to Memorial Bridge and Home base the same way they ran out. [A little in excess of 8 miles, total]
Other distances are possible on this route:
9 Miles: Do just the loop of Hains Point, and run back to the Marina via Memorial Bridge.
11 Miles. After the loop of Hains Point, run down the Mall to the Washington Monument. Return on the South side of the Mall to the Lincoln Memorial, and across the bridge back to the Marina.
13 Miles: Loop Hains Point, run down the North side of the National Mall, and cross the Mall at 3rd Street, instead of the 9th Street footpath.
14 Miles: After looping Hains Point, run down the North side of the National Mall, up Capital Hill, and cross over to the South side *behind* the U.S. Capitol, in front of the Supreme Court Building. Run back on the South side of the Mall to the Lincoln Memorial and across Memorial Bridge back to the Marina.
15 Miles: Instead of running down the National Mall, run a second loop of Hains Point (6 miles extra), and then cross Memorial Bridge back to home base.
18 Miles: After the loop of Hains Point, run down the National Mall and along East Capitol Street to RFK Stadium. Turn around, and run back to the Lincoln Memorial and across the bridge back to the Marina.
OR
21 Miles: Just do three complete loops of Hains Point (Lincoln Memorial to the tip of Hains Point and back 6+6+6+ 3 miles round-trip between the Lincoln Memorial and Home Base.
