Thursday Night Workouts

Location

Chevy Chase, MD

We will meet at 7 pm (6:30 pm, beginning in late August) each Thursday during the MCP training season in the parking lot behind the Starbucks and Einstein Bros Bagels at: 8542 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase MD 20814. It’s 1 mile inside the beltway on the west side of Conn. Ave.

To reach by metro, you may take the red line to NIH/Medical Center and then the J2 Silver Spring bus to the intersection of East-West Hiway and Conn. Ave. Then walk north 1/4 mile.

Workout

The training progresses from strength runs for the first few months of training, to tempo and speed workouts as we sharpen our runs in the last two months before the race. The strength runs mainly consist of hill repeats up the Mormon Temple hill. The tempo and speed training give runners a sense of how to hold a fast pace over 1, 2, and 3 mile distances.

If you’re running late, you can still catch us by walking to the Capital Crescent trail, just 100 yards to the south of the parking lot. After a little stretching, we begin the run @ 7:15 pm (6:45 after late August).

Warm Down

After the run, we close out the training session with a short yoga practice.
